Here is what it takes to make our Award Winning BBQ.

  • Pork: 600 pounds
  • Brisket: 200 pounds
  • Ribs: 90 slabs
  • Burgers, brats, chicken breasts, and hot dogs: Countless.
  • 100 lbs All Natural Lump Charcoal

Every Thursday we stock all of that plus extras (including house-made mac and cheese, cole slaw and fudge) for our Thursday Barbeques. All meat comes from The Butcher’s Block and is dry-rubbed using a recipe developed over 30 years by Tom Vernon, the father of Smith’s best friend. It’s served Carolina-style, meaning sauce—Sweet and Tangy or Hot and Spicy, both made in Short Stop’s own kitchen—is on the side.

We have people coming from all over town to try our ribs and pulled pork. It’s like a party here on Thursdays.

There’s something scrumptious and home-made every day of the week— biscuits and gravy, roasted potato-cheddar-bacon soup, and many more comfort food favorites you’ll be shocked to find if you think Short Stop is a run-of-the-mill convenience store. We do simple, great food at a reasonable price.

Barbeque hours: 10:30 am-6 pm Thursdays from April through October.
Main menu hours: 7 am-8 pm daily.

National award winning BBQ Chef from Kansas City, Chris Marks along with Hal Wagner from Charcoal and More in Sellersburg, IN will be ring up a Good One™ smoker/grill at Short Stop Food Mart’s Barbeque Thursday on August 9th from 10am till 6pm. Barbeque lovers and backyard grilling enthusiasts are invited to come learn from Chris and Hal about meat preparation, grilling/smoking techniques, and special recipes. Both will be sharing their secrets and tips for cooking mouth-watering meats on the grill. If you want take your grilling and smoking skills up a notch, come learn from Chris and Hal, the masters of meat preparation.

Chris will also have his award winning Three Little Pigs sauces and rubs available for purchase.

“It’s a unique opportunity for Barbeque lovers to learn from the Kings of Barbeque,” says Chris Smith, owner of Short Stop Food Mart. “We are looking forward to having Chris and Hal join us for Barbeque Thursday to educate our customers about backyard grilling and smoking. Both are entertaining and very knowledgeable about the chemistry behind creating great flavors.”

Chris Marks along with The Three Little Pigs BBQ Team has traveled over the United States and has won over 40 BBQ contests and the Prestigious American Royal BBQ Contest Grand Championship 8 times. Chris has been featured on the Food Channel’s “Taste of America” with Mark De-Carlo, Travel Channel’s “BBQ Battle”, and numerous other local and regional BBQ shows. Hal Wagner is an award winning competition BBQ competitor and owner of Charcoal and More located in Sellersburg, IN.
